				Hi, it's me.

Let's see. Most of you know me anyway, but it's me, $100T2. How did I get into RX-7s? Well, back in 1985, my Dad owned a printing shop in Los Angeles. One of his employees, a guy named Victor, had an 82 RX-7. It was lowered, had BBS wheels, the biggest whaletail I've ever seen on a car, the big airdam, side skirts, etc. He had a 13B in it, street ported, and every part Racing Beat made for it. Dellorto side-draft, full exhaust, nitrous, you name it, his car had it. It was the coolest car I had ever seen, so when I was 18 in 1991, I saved up enough money to buy an '83. Victor helped me tune it up and get it running nicely, and I kept it until 1994. I joined the Navy in 1999 and was stationed in Groton, CT. My boss at the base was a Lt. Commander, and her husband had "some 1987 RX-7 he's going to give to charity." My wife and I only had one car at the time, and I had always liked 2nd gens. So I said, "Is it a manual or automatic?" She said it was manual. I thought, could I be this lucky, and asked, "Is it a turbo?" "I don't know", she said. "Does it have a scoop on the hood, or is it flat?" "There's a scoop. Definitely. It has a big bulge." Yes! So I called him up and said, "Hey, Commander says you might be getting rid of your RX-7. Would you be interested in selling it?" He said sure, and brought it by for me to look at. It was a black T2, ran ok, had hot start problems, but the body was almost flawless. I decided to buy it, but was hoping he'd keep the price low, under $2k, because I was a broke Navy guy. "How much do you want for it?" I asked him. "How about you just give me what it would save me on my taxes if I donate it? How's $160 sound?" One hundred sixty dollars for a Turbo II??? Of course I said sure, no problem! Then he said, "I don't have the title for it from Texas where I bought it, so how about you pay me $100 now, and the other $60 when I get you the title?" I agreed and gave him $100. It took him six months to get the title, so he told me to forget the other $60. Now you know why I'm $100T2. I eventually got most of the problems sorted out, and started modding the car: BOV, RB turbo-back exhaust, stereo system, etc. ETA: Found a pic of it. Well, just before my son was born, the clutch slave went out, and the car had to be towed to a shop. While it was there, some assholes broke into it, stole my stereo, gauge panel that 1FastT2 on the Evil Forum used to make, my hood, the BOV, etc. I had it towed home where it sat in my garage until I sold it to a kid on the forum from Massachusetts. My wife and I split up, and I found a wonderful new woman who has come to embrace the RX-7 fetish I have. I told her I really wanted an RX-7 to work on, so I found this: It's been a project for the last 3 years. Right now, it's mostly disassembled, as I'm taking most of it down to bare metal for a restoration. There have been about a thousand different ideas for the car, from a T2 engine to a 5.0L to a 4.3L Vortec and T-56. Right now, I'm just worried about getting the chassis all together, then I'll decide on a motor. In the meantime, my GF helped me take the interior from this: To this: Next up, I stumbled across a GTUs with a blown motor. I bought it for $500, but it turned out to be Frankencar, so I sold it. Too much headache. Then, I came across this at a Massachusetts used car dealer. Bought it for $600, did the full RB turbo-back, coilovers, etc: However, it was too much of a project to deal with while working on all the other stuff I do, so I traded it for this: So, that's pretty much it. The 'vert and the 84. Eventually I'd like to add an FD to the stable. Hope this didn't bore you to tears, guys. Last edited by $100T2; 02-29-2008 at 11:46 PM. |

Good read man. I still can't believe how many fc's you've been able to pick up so cheaply. |

Wow, great background story! Very nice work on the interior, maybe a 1st-Gen section thread is in order?
