Clutch arm rod bent
In 09' my clutch rod broke at the threads, I didn't see this in the search; so I thought I would share with you guys my fix for the problem.
leaving my car useless until the replacement part came in.... When the rod was replaced and I applied pressure back on the clutch pedal; it bent AGAIN! Obviously this wasn't right, so after some searching on the rx7club forum I came across this awesome thread...http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=450101 I picked up the bearing at a local bearing and transmission shop. It's from a company called "Peer Bearing" and their part number is "608-ZZ-C3" It's labeled dimensions are "8x22x27, shielded" So I decided to take the clutch assembly out and do this mod! In my opinion I think this should be one of those routine FD things a person should consider while in the possession of these cars. After a few days of driving around; the clutch feels sooooooo much better! It makes my pettit rally pressure plate feel almost like stock now. The shifts are very much improved, especially 3rd gear. The whole thing just works and I shouldn't have any troubles with the new setup! And just to clarify, I did replace the bent rod with a brand new one. I saw one of the pictures had a bent rod still attached while I was test fitting. |

I had the same problem with mine, where I kept bending and snapping the rods. Turns out that very same hole had developed into a figure 8 and it would slide back into the back part of the 8 and the angle would bend the rod. I ended up just getting a new pedal LOL, but this is a great mod! Never thought of that. Now I know what to do if it ever happens again.

Knowledge is power, glad I helped out. Chances are high you'll have the same results after about 10-15 years of use ;-) But at least now you can come back to this thread and spend 20-25 bucks including parts and labor for it to never happen again!
Sorry I couldn't resist hehe GIFSoup Last edited by MO417FD; 03-31-2011 at 08:56 AM.. |

If it wasn't such a PITA to get the pedal out I'd think about just pulling it and doing this mod anyway haha.
I can't see the pic so I'll have to look when I get on my home computer tonight. EDIT: LOL now I see it. Knowing IS half the battle. lol Last edited by speedjunkie; 03-31-2011 at 09:12 PM.. |
