Default Viewing, editing, posting?

Got the new cam but I cannot for the life of me view vids. GoPro's website says Windows Media Player can play them but it just ain't working. What am I doing wrong?

Are there any free downloads that will allow me to edit vids? Cut out the 3 minutes of waiting at an auto-x, things like that?

How many of you have already made sex tapes with them? I mean that helmut mount is too good to pass up

No sex tape here but I did get my videos to play.

I use a Mac so the recommended video player was QuickTime Player. The interesting thing is I can usually drag a movie over the QuickTime icon and it will open, but this doesn't work with the GoPro videos for whatever reason. What I had to do was open QuickTime and then do a "file open" option and select one of the GoPro videos. This opened the video.

QuickTime Player is a free download so you should be able to use this on a Windows PC to play your videos. Windows Media Player might also work in this fashion so give it a try.

As for editing, here is a review of video editing software and in theory any of them should work for you:

http://video-editing-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

If you want to do some fun things like I did in my video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwJXgSmYCtE) and make it easy in the process, go buy a Mac and you'll never look back. iMovie is what I used and it is very easy. And FYI - yes, a Mac can run all the software you are used to (Word, Powerpoint, etc.) and it is virus free so you can surf porn with confidence. So go ahead, post up that sex tape!

PM me if you want more info on a Mac. I made my career off of Windows but then turned to the Mac way of things upon selling the company.

David,

Good to know you are a mac guy. I'm also a mac guy but haven't had a chance to play with the Gopro cam. What format is the video file?

I just looked at the file format on GoPro site and its in MP4. It should pay on PS3, Quicktime, and VLC.

PC owners, I use VLC all the time for video files. It plays practically anything!

I have not found any very good free software to edit on a PC, Herblenny is right. Quicktime and VLC are your best players. you should be able to play it in media player if you download and install the codec http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm I have confirmed that this works and plays .mp4 in windows media player.

for a PC paid solution download Sony's Vegas Movie Studio

If you are a PC user and want the free solution.

1) Download Any Video Converter - It will convert the MP4 to a WMV.
2) If you are a WinXP user, download the plugins (http://www.papajohn.org/Downloads/) and install so it will write in 1280x720 format. Save the plugins in the C:\program files\Movie Maker\shared\profiles (if the directory doesn't exist, create it).
3) Use Windows Movie Maker to make your video.
4) Save and/or post to mtbr and enjoy!

I have not tried this yet but have heard the conversion quality is pretty good for a free product.

I still have a few GoPro Cams in Stock, PM me if you would like one!

Thanks David. I really appreciate it. I was hoping to find some free DL to do some basic editing. I'll keep looking but thanks a bunch, I do appreciate it.

As for buying a Mac, I've thought about it but last I knew the Motec software wouldn't run on a Mac and then I'd be splitting duties between 2 comps and I'm not sure if I want to do that just yet.

I did manage to figure out how to open and view vids though, right click, open with, windows media player.

Hey Phil, what is this VLC you speak of and can it be used for editing?

Thanks much Kevin.

So I tried and tried to get updates, install Movie Maker, only to realize that I already have it

I'm gonna try some stuff over the next few days including a Time Lapse video of re-re-reinstaling the interior in a week or so.

If anyone is looking for a video camera, you need to pick up a GoPro. The thing is SOOOOOOOOOO badass!

VLC is a media player, plays pretty much anything straight out of the box. It's not editing software though.
