Default Speedo and Odometer not working

So go to drive home from work yesterday and the speedo and Odometer no longer working. Cable still hooked up in the back and into the tranny. Figured the cable must be broken so ordered a new one. Any other ideas or things I need to look at.

highly unlikely, but the speedo drive gear in the tranny might have sheared teeth off. usually the cable goes long before that but it is something else to consider.

Probably fell off behind the cluster.

I figured the cable would be the one to go. It had made noise when it was cold back before I left in feburary. Now I just need to research how to change the cable out.

Checked the back of the cluster and it felt like it was still connected. I ordered a new one and will replace it when it comes it. Went hunting in the FSM and didn't see anything on replacing it. But it looks like remove the cluster and feed it through the firewall and reconnect on the tranny. other than that can't think of anything else.
