The general consensus is that 6ports and bridges don't work too well. If you are going to do it, don't take the bridge higher than the stock secondary closing as it is already extremely late, leave support in the middle of the bridge from the section between 5th and 6th ports, and don't plan on using the stock intake manifold.

...How familiar are you with porting?
For a P-Port you have to drill it out though the housing and cr plating. Install the actual ports either by welding it in, or having a machinist drill, tap, and die the different portions (I highly doubt you have a tap and die that big). Once installed you have to fill it with epoxy and have it lapped to tolerances. Then you have to fill in the stock irons. If you can't do a Bridge port I would not suggest attempting to do a P-Port. However, you do have a few options: 1) Check racing beat and get one of their pre-made P-Port housings, this will remove a majority of the difficult work and leave you to fill in the side housings with Dev-Con. 2) Get in contact with mazda and get factory made P-Ports that are actually cast that way. 3) Buy Aluminum side irons and get in touch with RB about not having ports put in, thus eliminating your need to put the dev con in. Another option would be just to get a Large street port and call it a day. That's what I have done with my 6-PI Turbo, and I should be good for quite a good deal of HP/TRQ

Or you could use a turbo motor (4 port) with NA internals.
What are you planning on using the car for? Is this going to be a toy, or do you plan on racing in a class? Is this car going to see street time? You may or may not have asked yourself these questions, but we can give you better advise if we know the answers to these. |

For auto-x, I'd just go large SP. BP and PP won't have that low end grunt you'll need to come out of slow/tight turns....

Meh, not so much. Properly built P-Ports can run high enough in the RPM band that when you shift, you're still high enough. At the local auto-x where I was a regular MANY years ago, the guy that got the most FTD's was a 13B P-port in an FB (of all things) He would rev the SNOT out of that motor.
Regardless though, if you're going to go bridge-port, the factory intake won't be tuned properly anymore so in that regard, yeah a p-port would make more sense. Driving it to and from the track though..... I dunno about that. Although the FB guy did ever single weekend he was at some event. Some food for thought, take it as you will, don't forget prices when you see these numbers Stock S5 160 BHP Friends S5 with Rtek, and RB full dual exhaust - ~175 RWHP Bridges........ generally not much more I haven't seen the dyno sheet for an FI P-port, but my EMS guy claims - 380BHP (on methanol) |

I dont know how serious you are but you will end up in the Prepared class where PPorts have a slight weight penalty. If you're not going to fully strip the car then it wont be a big issue. I would say go for the PP if you have the means. Last edited by drewski86; 03-31-2009 at 10:41 AM. |

If you want to get into drifting....stop.
Use the vert as a daily driver, and get a old S4 coupe to destroy. Please, save the Verts!!

Craigslist is your friend!
They pop alot for under 1K. You can usually find a S4 GXL for cheap, and most have LSD stock. So it makes a good base!
