Default Temperature Related Issue?

Fellow Rotarheads,

I have a '04 RX8 ... 91K miles ... stock except for a K&N Air Tube & Filter. I have this lingering idoit light that is seemingly temp related. On cold mornings (starts) the light is on and never goes out. On warmer morning (starts) (50F+) ... no light. Maybe just an anamoly.

Has anyone had this experience?

Who can point me in the right direction without dealer intervention. Just do not feel like paying for diag time. One hour of cash for ten minutes of work.

May I ask which light it is?

It is the check engine light ...

At first I was convinced that the gas cap was loose ... wrong
Then I noticed that it seemed to disappear after the temp got to about 50F ... that made me think it was temp related.

Now I have noticed that there is a very distinct oil burning odor once I park the car ... my thought is that the cat has given up the ghost?

I am still under the extended warranty ... well at least for another 8500 miles. I was really attempting to avoid the dealer. Guess that I will be making the visit on Friday .... that is unless I can get some expert advise!

Thanks for replying
