Default New old member

New member is a 72 year old Alabamian living in WA since 2009. Bought a RX2 while in Air Force in 1972 and loved it, but sold it about 2 years later when we started having kids and needed a bigger car. Got the rotary bug again a few months ago and have been looking at them on Craigslist in Portland and Seattle area for several weeks. Yesterday I bought a 2004 RX8 base model in titanium gray metallic with black leather seats. Good body and interior and clean title, but a blown engine. VIN JM1FE173740115525 (free VIN search at https://www.research.com/vehicle/land.php).

I had visited Kurt Robertson (http://www.kurtrobertsonmazda.com) in Molalla OR a few days ago and talked with him about Mazdas and rotary engines and some of the things he's learned in his 30 years experience, and will be hauling the vehicle to him for installation of a 13B rebuilt motor and other necessary system upgrades (coils, injectors, water pump, radiator, clutch, etc). Will get the rest of the car checked out by my local reliable repair shop, then take it to Mazda for system check and any available recalls repairs.

Welcome, it sounds like you have the usual problems with the first generation RX-8s well in hand. Coils were a big problem as well as various other things. They are a great handling car, enjoy.
