Default How to read the parts fische

How to find Mazda Part Numbers

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A lot of people ask for Mazda part numbers, when in reality they can find them even faster.

First, download the parts list for your model year. 96+ guys, good luck so far nobody has made those parts lists available.

In this example, I will find the part numbers for the relays mounted to the ABS unit.

Now open the PDF, skip past the first page, and look thru the pictorial index to find the section where the part will be. If you're looking for several different parts, it can help to jot down the section numbers. Be patient - this step is hardest since it's not always obvious which section has the part, and there are many sections. It will become less of a problem as you get to know how Mazda organized the parts.

Pictorial Index:

OK, the first page of the index is just engine and drivetrain parts. If you keep going, you'll find the section with the braking system.

Here it is: the ABS unit is in section 4370.

So scroll thru the whole PDF, looking at the section numbers on the top of each page until you find the right one. Some downloaded versions are divided into 3 files, so you may need to open a different file to get to the right section.

The scan quality of these parts lists isn't great, so it really helps to set the zoom of the document to 100%, 150%, or 200%. Anything in between just makes it harder to read.

Dig around and look thru the picture for the parts. Sometimes the illustrations are a little rough or crude. Also note that for some sections, the illustrations are spread over more than one page.

Here we see a couple of boxy shaped things that resemble the relays. Their position codes are 43-7A3 and 43-7A2. This is not the Mazda part number, but you're almost there.

Now look up those numbers in the right hand column. We see for part position 43-7A2 that it's a "Relay, Motor Hydraulic Unit". The Mazda part number is NA23-43-7A2, and there is a quantity of (1) per car. The second relay is listed right below it.

If the part is a fastener, it will have the Mazda part number listed beside it in the picture. For example: 99940-0801. These numbers can be the hardest to read, so it sometimes helps to check the same illustration on another page.

Pay attention to any notes about manual vs. automatic transmission, and option packages. "Hard susp." = R1 or R2 package.

Sometimes there are different versions based on the VIN number of the car, in which case you should know the VIN and look to the bottom of the parts page to see which one it should take. If it's an interior part you will need to choose a color suffix "-00" or "-02". These get added to the Mazda part number, for example "FD18-88-111-02".

If you want a price, take those numbers to a site like www.mazdapartscheap.com and enter it into their parts number search. You'll then get prices, and if the part has been updated since the parts list was scanned, an updated number too. If you choose to order from another source, use the updated (supercede) part number, although the dealer can use either one.

All info courtesy of dgeesaman.
