			Can't you just stab a 1st gen electronic dizzy (81-85) in there and make it work with very little effort? You may be able to avoid even changing the front cover. Just leave one dizzy hole unused. I could have sworn I heard this somewhere. You're talking about an old school 13B, pre 80s vintage 4 port right?

			How do you define "electronic ignition" in this context? The first 13B's I know of that had electronic ignition (meaning defined by no points & condenser) were in the '84-'85 GSL-SE's. However the GSL-SE still had a single dizzy with a distributor cap & rotor, and it used a vacuum advance mechanism, so it wasn't a "full" electronic ignition in the modern sense. "Full" electronic ignition was introduced to the 13B in the FC ('86).

			O.K. guys, thanks for u r response, but I am not familiar with all the jargon that you used to describe the above ignition E.G "dizzy" etc. I'm a rooky! Anyway,here is the situation in it's entirety; I have an old 13-B in my Triumph TR-7, I think it is about a '74 and maybe from a pick-up. It has a carb and no turbo. It is running poorly at present (missing, studdering, etc). Adjusting the carb mixture didn't seem to help so , I thought I would take a look at adjusting the points. After removing the twin distributor cap, I find that there are no conventional, adjustable points there, and concluded that this was a breaker-less system of some sort. Seeing this made me wonder if the previous owner had changed out the conventional points to something more modern? If so, I need to know what car and year they are from. That's why I asked the question: "When did the 13-B switch over from normal points" to this system........so I could read up on them, and determine how to adjust them . Any help appreciated! |

			The '74 13B twin distributors (dizzies) from the REPU definitely had points. I spent a lot of time puzzling over how to adjust them many moons ago. It sounds like somebody probably used the Pertronix or other aftermarket electronic conversion on them if the points are no longer there.

In 1974 mazda came out with the first 13B which a four port 13B single dizzy. The motor was available from 1974- 1978. It wasn't until 1983 that the 13B reappeared in the GSLSE RX7. As for your question about swapping to electronic ignition. Yes it possible many people have switched over. I am just curious to see a picture of your motor with a twin dizzy front cover on a 13B. | |

			Thats an FB dizzy (81-85). You can get the FSM at http://foxed.ca/index.php?page=rx7manual#firstgen.  You can adjust the mag pickups but thats about it. I would do a tuneup first. Replace wires, make sure grounds are good, new plugs, cap rotor etc. If you still have issues look in the FSM for testing the ignitors. Sometimes they go bad but not often. Its usually some supporting issue like connections and wires. All that said, it may have nothing to do with the dizzy or the carb.

			So, in conclusion, my 1975 13 B engine, which was identified  by the engine logo ,has a distributor from a FB (1981-85) RX 7 in it? Is this correct? I will be looking for other surprises in this Old Girl. Stay tuned |
