Why are RX8's so fucking slow?

SO I came back from the farm to the ghetto today, ready for work tomorrow and this is the E-Mail I sent an associate of mine who has a soft spot for RX8's never understood why cause whn I test drove one they were fucking slow as! for a 'sports car' side by side run next to my daily 4WD proved to me today beyond any doubt LOL:

Went back to melbs today (shit hole!) haha.

Had a drag race with a Mazda RX8 (in the mighty FJ!!!) he was in front of me, he absolutely cained it (had his missus in the car lol) I was right behind him, we both took off flat from standing start at lights (I herd the little shitcunt revving to 9k rpm lol)……….. I pulled out from behind him and kept the Jandal into it banged it up into 2nd and 115kmh in 80 zone and pulled 3 cars on the nugget, shitcunt had his window down and got deffened by my induction noise when the Vtec kicked in YO!..... Once I got into third the little faggot (with immense shame) decided that was it, he had enough, I could see his missus pointing at my number plate RICEFJ!!!!!!!!! FTMFW!!!!!!

I always knew my FJ was faster than a RX8, just never had chance to prove it head to head.

LOL... I don't think either was Mazda's intention for the car. There are a lot of things that will beat an 8 in a straight line. They're a strong competitor for their class on an actual track.

I drove a bone stock one for a bit not too long ago. It's not fast by any means but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't fun! Easy to drive because it handles so well. It's a different kind of fun I guess but still enjoyable.

If you're buying an rx8 for a go-fast car, unless you sink money into FI you're gonna have a bad time. If you get it for a fun DD that you want to dick around in here and there.. Now you're talking

Yes it is slow, and I already want more power. My HPDE group of friends went mostly 350z over RX-8 for power and reliability reasons... My lap times are equal or maybe within a second depending on the track such as Road Atlanta with a 4000ft straight. Still fun on the track, especially for a noob like me who really needs to pay more attention to the racing line than how fast i'm going. Really depends on expectations. As far as Mazda jsut not giving it more power... I can definitely see the reasons they did what they did, but it still sucks we don't have a more dominant car to play around with.

Rx8's still murder 1st gens and 2nd gens (NA) stock for stock. Strait line or on a track. Even slightly quicker than a stock T2.

Maybe. Mine destroys my sister in law's 4Run with the V6. Its not really a vehicle that I try to 'race' people with, but I do occasionally have to put someone in their place when they won't let me merge. Lol.

The 1GR-FE is the 4.0 L (3956 cc) version, designed for longitudinal mounting in RWD and 4WD pickup applications. It has a 94 mm bore and a stroke of 95 mm. Output is 236 hp (176 kW) at 5200 rpm with 266 lb·ft (361 N·m) of torque at 4000 rpm on 87 octane, and 239 hp (178 kW) at 5200 rpm with 278 lb·ft (377 N·m) at 3700 rpm on 91 octane. This engine features Toyota's VVT-i, variable valve timing system on the intake cam and a compression ratio of 10.0:1. Service weight, including fluids, is 166 kg (366 lb).

An updated version of this engine features Dual VVT-i, increasing output to 254 hp (189 kW) and 270 lb·ft (366 N·m) on 87 octane and 285 hp (213 kW) and 289 lb·ft (392 N·m) on 91 octane. Inside, the 1GR uses a "taper-squish" combustion chamber design with matching pistons to improve anti-knocking and engine performance, while also improving intake and fuel efficiency. Toyota adopted a siamese-type intake port, which reduces the surface area of the port walls and prevents fuel from adhering to such walls. This engine has special cast-iron cylinder liners cast into the block, which are a spiny type to improve adhesion between the liner and cylinder block. With these special thin liners it is impossible to bore the block. In the event of cylinder wall damage (scoring, deep protrusions, etc.), the entire cylinder block must be replaced. For increased block rigidity, the 1GR also receives a high temperature plastic insulator/protector, which fills the empty space between the outer portion of the cylinders and block material common to open deck engines. For increased cooling efficiency, the 1GR employs water passages between the bores of the engine. There are two such passages for each bank for a total of four. This reduces cylinder hot-spotting and keeps combustion chamber temperatures more uniform.


Hmmm with the weights and added tq on the cast iron block of the 4runner it could be interesting.

Yeah, the engine is heavy. I would love to try something like getting an aluminum block, and do a twin turbo set up (like the FB here on RCC). But again......daily driver...
