buffing oem paint~ base/clear or single stage??

Having trouble using the search feature.. Gave the FD a bath and looked it over. Decided she needs a good buffing on the hood/bumper & a fresh waxing too. Looking close, it doesn't seem to have clear coat, but I could be wrong. The p/s headlight door looks a little dull/faded in bright light & there's a acid rain looking spot on the hood. Need to know before cutting into the surface or using compound on it. Anyone know the factory paint process? Do they use single stage or base-clear? Product tips are welcome too! Thanks!

When your fd reaches a certain age, the laquer will peel. That farecla is good stuff but be careful when using it with a machine.

I have used meguiars with good results. Just do a test panel with low cutting compound.

how to figure out what stage of paint you have

as with compound such as Meguiars ultimate compound,M105, M205(best least aggressive compound intended to polish the car to a high gloss) you can put a little on a micro fiber and rub a spot on the paint and see if you see clear or the color of the car. If you see the color of the car on the fabric its clear that its a single stage paint. Compound will remove a very very small amount of paint and it will transfer to your rag/polishing tool. I would recommend m205 if you just want to a shine, follow it up with a good coat of wax. Also dont forget to clay bar. I've been detailing professionally for years now. Let me know if you need any help. I love detailing.

coming back in to say thanks for the comments. I re-broke my right wrist right after I posted this and still haven't done anything. Been back @ it in the shop & she's lived safely in the paint booth all winter- going to research a little more & will do what it takes to get her shined up before DGRR 2013 though.
