GIZZMO LIM gasket
http://www.momentumgt.com/gizzmo-phe...996-p-903.html
I was wondering if anyone else has one of these. I got one not for the heat transfer aspect but to use it as a spacer because my fuel rails were pressing against each other. With this gasket I had the room I needed to keep the rails from touching, but it's not sealing all the way around. I only noticed one area where it was leaking but there could be more. I have no idea why it's leaking because it's not broken or cracked and the stock gasket sealed just fine. I've thought about coating each side with some high temp RTV but I'm not sure it would work. Could I possibly get a spacer made of aluminum or something to use as a gasket as well? |

I have no experience with that particular Gizzmo gasket, but a few friends use similar ones on their DSM's. I don't recall them having an issue with leaks, but I can ask them again. As far as having a spacer made from aluminum I don't see why not, just use two gaskets for the seal.

If you take your time, you could easily make one yourself Eric. 1/8" or 1/4" AL, use it as a transition to portmatch the manis. How much room do you have between the mani and the 500r?

How would I go about that though? Haha. You mean just stamp it out using a chisel or cut it with a dremel or something? I'm not sure if I showed you when you were here but I have hardly any space between the mani and housing, probably right around 1/8" or 1/16" with this spacer on. If I do make a spacer I'll have to make it a bit thinner so I can use a stock gasket on both sides like RotorDad said. What is your name btw RotorDad? LOL |

You could drill out a decent enough hole then use a dremel or a die grinder to shape out the ports. Oh & the name is Chris.

I have used phenolic gaskets on about 9-10 different motors, maybe more. They always worked great for me. I never put something together without them now. Your problem is the stock gasket. The phenolic material will not seal against paper, cork, or similar material. Either make the spacer or get a few of the phenolic gaskets.
You could even buy a 1/4" sheet of phenolic and use that as your spacer/gasket in one.

I ran it tonight after letting it cure for 24 hours, and it is SEALED. I'm stoked haha. Quote:
Oh BTW, do you know that the fuel kit you sold me a couple years ago had an RX-8 primary rail? I discovered that after trying like hell to make it fit and then calling KG Parts. |

I had it on my FD, kinda. Just mocked up really. Never really installed it. wierd that it would have an Rx8 primary rail only.

I sent you payment for it on July 8th, 2008 and I tried to install it later in July or August. At the time you told me you had never installed it on your car, I think you said something about it just sitting in your closet or something. I'm not using any part of that kit anymore haha.

So as it turns out my gasket WAS still leaking, I just didn't hear it the other day. After looking at the OEM gasket and the Gizzmo gasket, they aren't EXACTLY the same. You can see it in the pics. And because of this, a hole isn't getting covered up completely and apparently it's supposed to haha.

The quest for more torque
|
That's just the EGR port, I wouldn't worry about that, plug it up somehow and move forward.
The ideal place to block it is in the exhaust sleeve itself, but that requires a TIG welder and some INCONEL rods.
