cool temps - sending unit @ throttle body
I installed a temp gauge over the weekend. I tapped into throttle body hose. I have heard this line is slow to react, but it gives temps before the thermostats open - which is helpful.
My temps while driving hoover around 160-170 degrees. If I stop the car they rise to 180, but then drop down. RP replaced my thermostat with a 180 degree unit (everything was off front of engine). I am curious to see what temps you guys who have tapped this line are seeing. The most I have driven it is 30minutes, so may be it needs more time, but I doubt it. In a few months I will get a PFC and get a direct comparision.

The TB coolant line is a great source. Don't know who told you placing the sensor there was slow. Just the opposite....my gauge reacts at least as fast as my PFC.
There are so many variables (radiator, 1 or 2 oil coolers, ambient temps, engine tune etc) that looking at temps from other cars probably won't do you a lot of good. But FWIW, today locally it was in the low 80's F. and I was seeing ~175 to 180 F. (80 to 81 C.) at cruise...slightly higher after boost. R1, Fluidyne with 70/30 water to coolant, Mobil 1, stock T-Stat.

it was in a post on the other forum. It seemed like half the people had no issue with temp readings - the other have did.
I did see 210 on the guage today. Stupid stop and go traffic--go if there is no one in front or coming!!!--cooled down to 180 on the interstate - below if I turned the heater on. Thanks for your info, the more the better. I think I will be ordering a FC thermoswitch to help the stop and go traffic issues. I have worked with a rep from TDI (fluidyne) at work. I MAYBE able to source some discounted fluidyne radiators. Let me know if you are intrested. I promise nothing at this point. I would have to let him know how many people are intrested then get a price.
