Default Modified gauge cluster

Is there anyway a tach could be off by a couple thousand rpm's? Its an aftermarket tach and i think it is about 2000rpm's above what that actual engine is reving at. is this possible? if it is, is there anyway to check and fix the problem?

thanks

well i wouldnt put it passed it. Best thing to do though is just hook up another tach to the signal wire and compare.

Yeah, anything's possible. See if you can't look up info/instructions for that particular tach and then find out how to set it for 4/6/8 cylinders, it may be set wrong. I don't remember which setting is appropriate for stock FC timing, but I'm pretty sure one of them is (I think it's 4cyl).

Easy way to tell is if it is at 0 when the car is off. If it is then make sure that it is connected right. Go from there.

FC's should be set at 4 cyl for tachs.

Are you getting the tach signal from the trailing coil? If not that could be why.

Theres also a check connector that you can connect it to to receive a tach signal. It should be on the drivers side of the engine bay, and its a green plug. Look into that as well.

Plugged into the STOCK leading coil check connector - "4 cylinder".
Plugged into the STOCK trailing coil check connector - "8 cylinder".

If you're using a distributor that uses one coil for leading and one coil for trailing, it should be "4 cylinder".

well, i dont know what a 3k idle sounds like with exhaust, but my car was pretty loud when I first got it running.

It only had an open header back then, and was idling roughly at around 2,800 rpm. I had a bad TPS and aparently a vaccum leak.
