it will go off for a couple of reasons....

1) oil level too low

2) coolant level - the sensor is at the top of the radiator and with flow and pressure from driving it will go off but at idle the coolant will not hit the sensor. Add coolant!

3) at redline

still night racing that 87 na??

+1 on the coolant.....find the leak ASAP or be ready to replace the motor.

It could be as simple as a bleeding the coolant system but always assume it's a leak until you verify it.

yeah, I thought I had a leak in my new engine as well, but it turned out to be an air bubble.

check the line running to the sensors. if that is cut then it might go cause it to go off.

Ground out that wire on the way to the auto parts store and replace the faulty sensor.
