Oil Temperature Sender Location
This is my first post, looks like a great forum!
Here's my question - I want to install an oil temperature gauge (mechanical, not electrical). Any ideas where I can mount the sender? Thanks, Jeff |

I would *highly* recommend using an electrical oil temperature gauge because having hot, pressurized, flammable fluids running through the cabin is never a good idea.
I have my sender mounted in my ReSpeed oil pedestal. It comes with two 1/8" NPT ports for senders, although this may not be the best location for oil temp readings because you are reading from cooled oil out of the coolers. (disclaimer: I may be wrong about the oil flow direction) I have also seen people mount senders in the banjo bolt at the oil filter pedestal, and in the oil pan bolt. I think egauges.com sells the oil pan bolt adapter so that you can mount a temp sender in it.

Thanks for the replies. I agree, I wouldn't want a hot flammable liquid spraying through the interior either. But that's not how the mechanical temperature gauges work. The have a small capillary tube filled with an expandable gas such as ether. As the sender probe heats up it starts to heat the gas which expands and moves the needle.
I have found difficulty finding a full sweep oil temperature gauge which matches the factory gauge faces for an affordable price. I was hoping someone had done this and might know where a good mounting port might be. |

Haven't checked in a while for alternatives, but the DEFI 'D' Series in black face were decently priced and matched well. The temp gauge was good for oil or coolant. They're discontinued now but come up on occasion.

I have the Defi's that are linked and they look amazing and match the interior great! However, I ran into a good deal on them and that is the only reason I got them(otherwise they are extremely expensive). I would look into the prosport or VDO gauges for a nice cheap alternative. Prosport Gauges match the amber interior and have great customer support from what I understand as well as a new center speaker gauge pod that seems to have some good reviews so far as well.
