Default What does this sound like to you?

What do you think is going on here? I have Kevin's opinion (all he has heard is this sound clip) and if it is the TPS and idle adjustments. Then does anyone have a TPS that is good for sell? Anyway all I have to do to stop it when it does it is tap the gas pedal. I can't adjust my TPS using the LEDs method because only one light illuminates not matter where you put the tps. I think the other side is bad.. I just don't know where to look or start.. It's been a while since I had even looked into this anyway because I really don't have time anymore. I'm going try and shoot for an hour or two tomorrow.

so i was listening to this and it sounds like the following.

The engine is increasing speed then falling. Now i have had several things cause this for me before.

1. The TPS is something to check. You can check it with two methods, one is by voltage and the other is by resistance. In either case the transition should be smooth and no dead spots. If your using the voltage method, you should get about 1v at idle and about 4-5v with the throttle WOT. Resistance, wise, you should see around 1000k at idle, and about 5000k WOT.

The engine does not need to be running to do this test.

2. Vacuum leak. A vacuum leak can cause the idle to do the same thing. The rpms are getting to high from the leak so the computer is trying to lower it, hense the looping idle.

Also, what rpm is it fluxuating between?

To check for vac leak use a propane torch. Should help you narrow it down if not isolate the precise position to which your leak (if you have one) is located.

i have a tps but connecotor is cut sadley.
some pics would be nice, i would also check the timing (my timing was off on mine one time) and had that idle.
is this NA to turbo? s4 or s5?
check for vac leak also like mentioned above.
do u have a multi meter or ohm meter?

It's 1989 s5 vert. and it's only of start up when the engine is cold that it does that. and I have a digital multimeter. I don't know how to check timing.

Now if could maybe be a safc-ii or maybe even error code 31. which is the relief solenoid.. And I don't know what it does but I know it runs for the first 120 secs or so.. but it stops doing it before then.. I think it may have to deal with the accelerated warm up system. If it wasn't for college i'd take it to kevin to look at it.

ok well what doe u have the safc settingfor?
post settings and also percentage of fuel.

haha, well for 800 it's -25% but it did it when it was -20% the next place is 1000 or 1400 and it's about -18% and then it's a nice curve to about -10% (i believe) @ 3000 or was it 3500. and it's either -10% or -5% to redline. I'm aware it's probably detuned to hell but the fuel smell is still there. I can get the actual settings but I think this is good enough. Also I believe I have the throttle set for 99/100 so it's always in low throttle mode. high throttle is -5% all the way across. I need a wideband so I can actually see what afrs I'm getting.

ok guys, it seems that my tps is half broke.. My narrow range is fine, I adjusted it a little lower anyway. it's now 1k-4.86k ohms however my full range is a little high @ 1.1k-6.1k. I'm going to reset the error codes now after I adjust the idle screw at the top.. and record what errors I may have.. oh yeah, every once in a while.. (READ: so far twice in the two years I've have the car) I get a AFM code. hm Actually I just got another one.. I got 8, 17, and 31. I'm not going to reinitialize the safc-ii since shit was adjusted and set the idle then reinitialize it again. I guess.

CORRECTION: The safc-ii throttle point is/was 0%,99%.
