Default Air Conditioner Problems Anyone?

A few weeks ago I drove my RX-8 on a 200 mile trip. About 50 from my final destination, the a/c quit blowing cold and the fan didn't seem to be as forceful. After about half an hour, it seemed to work fine.

On the way back, this time with a friend on board, the same thing happened about 50 miles from home. Any suggestions? Is there a fix for this? I'm seriously contemplating joining the ranks of the former RX-8 owners.

I know the RX has never been renowed for it summertime cooling abilities, but it was over 90 degrees outside and very close to that inside. I was not happy. My friend was even less pleased.

There is a fix for it. I had this happen a year and a half ago, took it to the dealer, found out there was a TSB for it and they replaced the AC controller unit.

Would that be a stock Mazda item?

I had a problem with the temperature control on the dash. Mazda wanted $320.00 for the part alone. I found it at a wholesale house for $240.00, $75.00 labor to install. Other than that works great in South Florida heat.

How much did this little black piece cost? I've got this problem going on now, and was just going to suffer through it.
