Blue Ridge Rotary Run
I will soon start working out the details of this year's Blue Ridge Rotary Run.
http://www.blacklance.net/B3R/ Just letting people know now so they can hopefully starting making plans to attend. UPDATE!!! Date: Oct 25th - 26th. Where: start in asheville, end in Smokey Mountain National Park (Smokemont Camp ground) Sat night, drive back to asheville sunday morning Sat evening: I have reserved a group camp site at Smokemont Campground 4 miles away from the Parkway's end in Cherokee. We can have up to 20 people camp at the group site. If you would like to get your own site, it will be $20 a night. You can call 1-877-444-6777 to make reservations. If you want a hotel, you will have to set that up on your own. When we left, the last of the 3 group sites was still available... So now, I shall start a list of those of us who will camp in the group site. 1. Tray (lt1_rx7/traynham.houston) 2. Holly (ROTORX7Holly) 3. Gianny (Nexcis) 4. Lacy 5. Greg (Eat-Pez) 6. Greg's guest... 7. 8. 9. 10. Please PM me if you would like a slot in the group site. I am not asking for any $$ for the group site, but if you would like to donate anything, I won't turn it down. It cost $35/night for it.

The drive will start on Sat morning in Boone, NC. We will head south on the parkway. I've not yet decided if we will stop in Waynesville/Sylva or go all the way to Cherokee. Then, if all goes well, I plan to drive back north Sunday to Boone.
My thoughts right now are we catch breakfast in Boone on Sat morning and show how to get to the parkway. On Saturday, everyone drives down the parkway at their own pace in what ever groups they want to be in. Stopping and getting pix or hiking or what ever as they want to. Have dinner sat evening in one of the above mentioned towns. Then Sunday morning, get breakfast again and then as a whole pack, we head back north to Boone, making like 3 stops on the way for larger group pix. The whole section of driving is really about a 3 - 4 hours straight drive (~150 mi). Sorry for the delay in this info. I have been holding off on planning this event further because there is a 10 mi stretch that is closed right now due to a rock slide. The time line for it to be reopen is late Spring '09 :-/ I will chat with the other guy who is helping me plan this and see what his thoughts are about it and let everyone know as soon as we decide. The detour is no less than 30 - 40 mi around and you have to "back track" to see the non-closed sections. closure info: http://www.nps.gov/blri/planyourvisit/roadclosures.htm
