Bubble Tech FD Map lids!
Hey guys, we'd like to share with you our newest product!
After many part out threads with dozens of people always asking for map lids, I figured it was time to develop with a more budget friendly price tag! In addition to replicating this, we have made some revisions to make these substantially better then the stock ones (which are no longer available from mazda) Cracks- all the interior parts such as the map lid pocket, dash vents, etc are prone to cracking and disintegrating due to the heat making them brittle. Our solution- using a resin with the Heat Deflection temps of 230*+. Roll pin- The plastic surrounding/plastic dowel pin tends to take a lot of friction and force causing a stress fracture in the plastic hinge. We addressed this by reinforce the area and adding a metal screw in roll pin (also you will be able to install it without removing your door panels) Spring tension- the spring tension on the cam is WAY to strong- this lies underneath the map pocket compartment, Ideally it replacing the tension would relieve stress but its one more piece that will need to be manufactured. In addition you need to remove your whole door panel to remove it (another chance for more of your plastics to break) Instead we change the angle of the Cam that the spring rolls on- this relieves pressure and less "kick" when it opens and closes (and lowers cost, wahoo!) Strength- To ensure these last longer than the brittle stock plastics we have increased the thickness of the map lid by ~55%, nice and beefy! In addition we filleted the inner seams to add rigidity. Lastly we filled in the hollow voids on the cam and thickened it. Here are some of the prototypes as we've gone through various renditions! We are in the final stages of production and will have these available before the end of march! Price is set at $95 and will be on our site when the are available for purchase |

these are actually LHD lids... We do have some interest in designing RHD versions but still feeling out if there is enough interest in them for it to be worth doing. Tell your buddies to chime in if they are interested! We have a few guys over in the UK already starting an interest thread |

94 textured Map lid! or is it??? suspect::gwink:: I'll let the pics do the talking, you can be the judge:nod: DISCLAIMER: After various tests with different paint products it is nearly impossible to match the black finish for everyone. Given the car is 20+years old, the condition of your interior parts play a huge factor in what shade of black your trim is. As you can see in the picture the stock trim looks to have a blue-ish purple in it, while on another car the trim was more black. For everyone who has already placed an order, you will receive the map lid painted. For future orders, the lid will come unpainted and you can choose which colors match your trim best. For a nice rich black, the products we recommend are from SEM's paint line SEM Trim black SEM Landau black (What we currently use) SEM Satin Black However, for our textured version, it will come as is in the picture. Since we spray on our texture it will technically come painted black, but may need a coat of paint if depending on the condition of your trim. (faded or new) Price will remain the same as we never intended to paint the lids (hence why it took longer than expected) The textured versions will be +$10 more We will be at DGRR With some samples if you want to see them in person! Or try to break it:gwink: PS we should be getting a RHD lid in shortly to begin making RHD versions =) |
