12a question
my sons se had a carbed 12a in it.I'm planning on using my se housings and rotors when i build his engine. i've looked at the 12a's oil cooler and was wandering, do I need to use the beehive or can I use an s4 cooler instead?

The 12A in my 79 used an oil cooler almost identical to the one in an FC. I don't know about internals or the fittings, but I don't see why not. I still have the oil cooler and front cover from the 12A, if the FC one won't work. Anyone else?

Don't use the beehive for a 13B build. You want a front mount of some kind.

The 2nd gen oil cooler works the hard line for the back iron has to be straightened a little to fit then you will have to figure out a way to mount it

as long as you can figure a way to mount it, use the S4 cooler.

recently my se's oil cooler was cracked and i was gonna use an s4. i ended up getting it welded,so i was gonna use it in my sons car. his engine is gonna have se housings and 12a irons, that's why i was gonna see if it would work.

I think my question is related:
I just recently replaced my sp 12A (lost compression) with a stock 12A. It was running the "bee hive" cooler so I pulled it already and am running a front mount. Can the hard coolant line that's still back there be unscrewed and that port plugged or ...? I didn't want to attempt to remove it yet and potentially shoot myself in the foot and introduce a new problem that didn't exist. Right now I've capped both openings but they're still leaking a bit. Here's a picture of what I'm talking about with the orange arrow pointing out the hardline I'm referring to. (it's not my engine by the way): |

Just cap one of the ports with a cap they sell some in the help section of auto zone that are just for blocking coolant. You could always bend it and weld it shut.
