Default Door handle keyhole light with pictures

I didn't even know there was such a thing tell I read this thread about a year ago when i was searching how to replace my door handles. I had forgotten about the light tell a few weeks ago when I pulled my friends door apart to fix the lock and saw the wires. Thought I'd take some pics of the install for anyone else looking to replace theirs.

I'll use some pics from my other thread to help with install. First pull of triangle

Remove 1 bolt and 1 nut

Remove the 2 clips 1 for lock, you don't have to but it makes it easier to see what you are doing.

1 for door handle

You'll see 2 white wires. You'll need to remove the lock fastener (wire around lock tumbler) in order to get the rubber light holder out. Well you don't have to but again it makes it easier.

What mine looked like

New red replacement bought at radio shack for 1.78$ "Grain of wheat 12v"

Both wires were white so i didn't think + - mattered. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this. Mine stays on for about 30seconds when you lift the door handle.

I've fixed 2 of them so far, both cars have 140xxx on them. I'm not sure what would make them go out. Duffman's FB still has working key lights

I've also talked to 2 other FD people and they didn't even know they had such a thing

mine works on my vert... I think if you pull the handle without the key in it lights up... or something like that

***of course in '89 my '90 vert was $27,000 and FDs were in the $40,000 range.... I'd expect them to have some damn bulbs in the locks! ***
