How the hell do I get through Atlanta?
I'm leaving from Murfreesboro (near Nashville) and going to Savannah on Memorial Day weekend. My plan was to leave around 3 est. which would put me in Atlanta around 6 or 630 est. Considering it would be on a Friday, would this put me in a traffic jam?
Google Maps has me going through Atlanta on 75 the whole way, but it looks like I could go around on 285 on the east side of Atlanta and it wouldn't be much farther. I can always alter my schedule some or stop early/late for food. Suggestions?

I agree with rdtg99. You should avoid I-285 East at all cost on a Friday afternoon, especially on a holiday weekend. I-75 all the way to I-16 is the most direct way. What a boring drive across I-16. I hope you have a great time at your destination.
The other option is to visit me at work and get the Downing/Atlanta shop tour. I work until 6PM. We could have dinner nearby, then you could be on your way in lighter traffic. However, you would get a taste of what I-285 East is like for a short distance. Let me know if would like to make the time to stop in your weekend plans, then I can get you details.
