Talking How the hell do I get through Atlanta?

I'm leaving from Murfreesboro (near Nashville) and going to Savannah on Memorial Day weekend. My plan was to leave around 3 est. which would put me in Atlanta around 6 or 630 est. Considering it would be on a Friday, would this put me in a traffic jam?

Google Maps has me going through Atlanta on 75 the whole way, but it looks like I could go around on 285 on the east side of Atlanta and it wouldn't be much farther.

I can always alter my schedule some or stop early/late for food.

Suggestions?

Rush hour tends to start @ 2pm on Fridays and I would avoid taking I285 during that time.

What time does it end? Or at least get thin out enough to average... 50mph?

Default Suggestion

Go to Birmingham and then Panama cut across I10 then back up I75 to Savannah. Not much farther and probably get there in the same amount of time. Or don't go at all.

I agree with rdtg99. You should avoid I-285 East at all cost on a Friday afternoon, especially on a holiday weekend. I-75 all the way to I-16 is the most direct way. What a boring drive across I-16. I hope you have a great time at your destination.

The other option is to visit me at work and get the Downing/Atlanta shop tour. I work until 6PM. We could have dinner nearby, then you could be on your way in lighter traffic. However, you would get a taste of what I-285 East is like for a short distance. Let me know if would like to make the time to stop in your weekend plans, then I can get you details.

Paul, I was just giving Rob options.

Wtf, a girl who works out and has short hair apparently... But I do have a ghetto booty. According to a female friend I just asked, "Yes you have a butt and it looks good. You have a perfect ass". So eat me...

Gotcha. So in the case of Atlanta, in and out and straight down the middle is the best option. No foreplay on the beltway... shame...

I'm planning on coming back Tuesday and would have a ton of time if that works Holly? I'm not even sure I'd get to Atlanta before 6. Leaving at 3 and getting there at 6 is really pushing it and I tend to be slow leaving because I'm one of those last minute planners/packers. You and dinner would be awesome, with the shop as a nice bonus.

I'll have to warn my lady friend that's coming with me that you and I have a "special" friendship.
