FAQ and other helpful information
What is this event about? (organizer's intent)
This event is for rotary owners (and those of us with formally rotary powered cars) to gather and enjoy a scenic drive (maybe a hike) followed by hanging out by a camp fire and socializing. What's the traffic like on the parkway? Parkway speed limit is 45 for the part we will be driving... and there will be several other tourist out enjoying the leaves as well. So you will get stuck behind folks who aren't going the posted speed limit. The suggested route is about 90mi long. What's the weather like? Temperatures will be mostly likely not get much above the 60 during the day and can drop just below freezing at night... Is alcohol allowed at the camp site? The camp ground does permit alcohol for those who are of age... and we can enjoy it as long as we do not disturb other guest in the campground. Another thing to remember is that Cherokee, NC is in a dry county, so you can't buy it in town. The most convenient location is a convenience store by the parkway entrance at US 19 (mm 455.7), less than a mile towards Cherokee... If you decide to drink, you will be expected to be responsible about it. I will be the first to get park rangers if you start to become an issue. Where can I find more information about the area? Blue Ridge Parkway ** milepost 377.4 to milepost 469.1 (end) Smokemont Campground Devil's Courthoust Graveyard Fields Cherokee, NC
