Default MI 2 day meet/Autocross May 16/17

For those of you who don't get into the regional sections:

2 Day RX7 Meet/Autocross Event in Michigan

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright guys, lets see if we can do this the right way.

We've got a two day autocross event on May 16/17 this spring, so lets combine this with a meet and have a good time. This event is perfect for those of you who have always wanted to check out autocross and get your feet wet. The sponsors of this event http://furrin.org/ always put on a good show, and the atmosphere is laid back and aimed at being a fun time.

We can work out overnight accomodations based on how many people will be coming from out of town. If only a few, then I've got a 1 acre back yard we can use for camping. If the response is better than that, then I'll investigate camping in the area of the race. This event is about 15 minutes from my house.

Below are the event details. If you can make it, post up and let me know. Please specify if you will be looking for a place to crash (er, I mean stay overnight).

The Furrin Group has verified two of our premier autocross events of
the 2009 season. On May 16 & 17, we will open our season at West
Michigan Auto Auction in Moline. These will be two separate events.
On the 17th, we will be coordinating the event with the Ford Contour/SVT
club event. Cost for Saturday is $15 FG member, $20 non-member. Cost
for Sunday is $15 FG or Ford Contour/SVT member, $20 non-member. If
you run both days, there will be a $5 discount for the second day. Each
day will offer the $10 Vintage class; any vehicle older than 1980.

This event should be open for pre-registration within a few days at www.myautoevents.com We usually fill up, so I would recommend registering as early as possible. The only thing you need besides a car that will pass tech inspection (decent tires, battery secured, ball joints and brakes in good shape) is a helmet. And they do have loaner helmets available, so if you don't have one don't let that stop you.

Okay, registration is now open. Of those entered so far, 25% of them are RX7s.

Photo gallery from the event. Great turnout and we all had a blast!

I did not win CSP on either day, but got edged out by 2/10ths of a second by a highly modified Miata on race rubber. The driver is a really great guy with tons of experience, and he has given me advice from time to time over the last few years. He is a former RX7 owner, so he can't be all bad.

I'm still on $48.00 Sumitomo tires, so losing by the time it takes to blink your eye is a little easier to take.

I also lost to a Porsche for the first time in over two years (a Porsche racing in any class at all), which was a bummer. But I did beat a supercharged 911, and even a Viper. lol.

If I was still on the Hoosiers I would have been scaring the supercharged Lotus Elise that had the fastest time of the day. Why do they have to be so damned expensive!? Well, when the kids finally grow up and leave home I'll be able to afford to kick everyone's arse!

I don't know if it is just me or not, but the link doesn't work.

What kind of Porsche beat you out? I'm still working on getting my FB put back together after all these years. Money is still a major contribution to the reason it is taking me so long, but it is coming along. At a crawl that sometimes resembles a dead stop, but it is still moving ever so slightly.

It was a yellow 911 from '76. His buddy told me it has about every modification possible and the guy has been racing for decades. I included a few photos of the car in the photo gallery. And again, he beat me by the time it takes to blink your eyes.
