85 gsl se wont start
Ok so i was driving to work the other day not driving it hard or anything and it just dies on me, tryed to start it and nothing it revs to a grand then dies like someone unplugs it or soemthing. So i take it over jfaplanets house and we do everything we can think of, swapped out ecu, maf, o2 sensor, its getting spark and fuel, its getting the plugs wet so the injectors are spraying the timing is dead on and nothing wrong with the distributor, checked the fusible links, fuel filter, ignitors, the thermostat core or whatever its called. This is a 85 gsl se fuel injected with a fresh rebuilt motor with not even a thousand miles on it.
Like i said ill start it itll rev up to a grand and then just shut off, sorry for the long read but were running out of ideas, if anyone has any shout em out cause if i can't get it running again i might be in one of charles rent a rotarys (red fc vert)

Did you check the intake tube for cracks? Massive vacuum leak?

Fuel pressure? Just because the plugs are wet does not meant the pump can maintain the needed PSI to keep the engine running.

Try vacuums, also try putting jumper cables on the ground terminal on the battery and the other side on the frame, then try motor? Maybe you lost a ground and the ecu is not getting proper voltage.
Check pin out on ECU to see if your getting proper voltage. When it revs can you hold the gas and it stay running? If not check exhaust. Maybe its plugged up tight! Hurry up and figure it out before it gets towed off..... Last effort - Try bolting a carb up to it and see it it will run.

Also check your brake booster hoses. Is there power to the distributor with ignition on? I had one come in once that had an ignition switch go bad. Uncommon when these guys were younger but they are getting a bit long in the tooth now.
Exactly what were you doing when it died? Notice anything just before it stopped? Last edited by rx4ur7; 03-14-2009 at 02:32 AM.. |

it is the same problem that I had with my SE when I was trying to put the SE lower intake on my S4 block. There was something there creating a vacuum leak and well I had to put the S4 lower back on because I could not get it after 3-4 tries. So I still say Vacuum but it could be power. Have you checked the pin voltage at the ECU yet?
I tried to call you and charles with no luck. Even texted you!

Check the trailing ignition it also triggers the fuel pump to run also make sure all the wires on the trailing coil are clean and tight one of the spade type is the one for fuel pump.

Sounds electrical to just stop with no other symptoms.
Water temp sensor or connector, I have seen harness failure right behind the connector, internal, the insulation looked fine. Oscillator and connector in front of the battery? At this stage with the plugs fouling, you have tried a new set of NGK’s I’m sure. Something to try with the fuel system, try clamping the fuel line off. I use a pair of those small needle nose vise grips with fuel line on the jaws. Crank and see if it fires. If it does then open up the grips just a tad to be able to let through a little fuel. It may take a few tries to get it right. I perfected this procedure in dealing with the FC. If this works it can indicate an issue with the regulator and or damper. Sometimes it clears out injectors. If you have been doing a lot of trying the exhaust can load up with fuel, disconnecting the exhaust from the manifold will bypass it for testing. You might want to check wiring and signals for the air flow meter and control unit. Last edited by rx4ur7; 03-30-2009 at 02:11 PM.. |

You also need to open her up on Road Atlanta in July. No steep cliffs
to fall off and stupid butts to run into you. Sorry to hear the FI is gone. it probally had to do with ignition or fuel.
