Default Question for those knowledgeable in the ways of the 'vert...

Noticed the trunk has the slot for the spare just like the coupe does. So, I'm going to put my spare in the trunk.

However, the spot where the spare normally goes behind the seats has a metal piece that the spare can rest on and be bolted down to.

Can I cut that piece out? It doesn't seem like a structural piece, so I'm thinking of cutting it out so I can put my sub enclosure there.

What do you all think? Can it be done?

Because the trunk is already so small, I always fill the tire well with tools and such and keep the spare where it is.

I couldn't tell you if the support is structural or not, but instead of just cutting it out, why not remove it in such a way that it can be put back in future if desired/needed.

As for sub enclosures, (not being a sound guy) can you not put it behind the driver and/or passenger seat? Or even better, how about a 3rd gen bose sub with the soundwave tubing laid sideways and exiting through holes cut into the front of the spare cover?

Just an idea.

I don't think that can be done.

I want to put a pair of 10s or 12s back there, one behind each seat, and that support is in the way behind the passenger seat for what I want to do... I want to make it look stock so I can keep the deflector behind the seats.

I cut mine out ... no problems so far. Cutting wasn't as easy as I thought ... I am gona do pretty much the same thing, put a sub back there n use the existing tire cover to hide it.

Well, I dont know, but I can tell you this much:

it certainly does not LOOK like a structural support, but you nere know, and as for the wheel well, I dont even HAVE a spare, so I'm going to go and cut that well out and just weld a flat plate in, less metal, less crap...

drifting and not caring about asthetics so much FTW!

I cut it out... Or, knocked it out with the air chisel. It was a bitch, I was surprised.

I have the lower half of my enclosure fiberglassed in, just have to build the top half and install it.

Top half is done, just have to wait for the 'glass to set. Then, I have to cut out the speaker holes, fiberglass the inside, sand it down on the outside and paint it (to cut down on the fiberglass smell... yuck.) throw the subs in, and rock.
