Default Rebuild Questions

What is this? It is on the upper fuel rail. It appears there is a diaphram of some sort located in this housing.

I have not disassembled this because it has given no sign of failure; however, since I have the engine appart, if there is an inexpensive replacement I'f like to know about it.

Any input?

Thanks.

During Disassembly, I broke the air intake off this solenoid...

Since it is a air intake, I imagine, I could superglue it back on, but just for laughts, how much is a replacement? Anyone have a used one they want to sell?

I am assuming all four are identical?

The one with the gray sticker, right?
That's not on a turbo model, so I can only guess...
If it's a kouki FC, it's most likely VDI?
(After looking at your fuel injectors, you look like you're running a zenki FC non-turbo - most likely 6-port?)

If you're talking about the "mushroom" part, it's just an air filter.

Yes, most of them are swappable.
It's a matter if they are "NO" or "NC".
I haven't confirmed if they are all one type of another.
Never priced them brand new from the Mazda dealer, since most guys chuck them when ripping out emissions - pretty easy to find used.

Never heard this terminology... Kouki (kooky )

Yes, I am speaking of the grey one. And these photos are from my 6 port 88 vert.

It's good to know they are common, I will cast about and see what I can find.

Thanks again Ted. Always Helpful

I like to use the Japan terminology when talking about the year splits...

1986 - 1988 = S4 = Zenki
1989 - 1991 = S5 = Kouki

I guess this is the famed Pulsation Damper.

In 19 years, this one has never leaked, but since getting to it is a PITA, I might as well check out a replacement now. Last price I saw was about $150 (I will call Ray for a price on all the items in this list) but if anyone knows of a better price/souce, I'd appreciate hearing.

These upper and lower rail injectors look to be exactly the same. Are they? If not, how do I tell them apart?

That is correct.
All stock FC fuel injectors are identical.
If you wanna keep track of where each were originally located, you need to mark them.
You can't really tell them apart.

They were sent out to be rebuilt, so which is which doesn't concern me now.

Wire Harness General...

As I have been disassembling the car, I have been hearing crackling noises from the wire loom and the covering tape (and hopefully not the wires) crack as they move.

Anyone had a bad experience with needing to replace the harness or part of the harness after a rebuild because the wires were too hard and broke?

That is your fuel pressure regulator.

Kouki is another term for a s5 2nd gen rx7, zenki is a s4 model.

Engine is now ready to come out, every external system has been removed and the tranny/exhaust is disconnected.

My biggest surprise so far is that not one of the bolts has been any real trouble. (knock wood).

Question:

The top engine/trans bolt behind the oil pedestal at first wanted to round, so, I used a couple of other wrenches and it came right out. Anyone have a source for hardened bolts so I can replace it?

The tranny bolts don't need to be anything suepr special. Just take the to a hardware store and grab the proper length and dia/pitch (M12/1.25 IIRC, but don't quote me )
