Wiper problem
I'm in a bit of a pickle. My mist/int/II setting on the wipes has stopped, while the I setting works still. Looking through wiring diagrams, it appears the settings that quit all use the intermittent wiper relay, which my guess has given up the ghost.
Where is this relay located?

IT'S ALIVE!

Isn't the relay in the wiper switch itself? I thought that's what the "wiper fix" was - replacing the relay. I've got an extra switch lying around from the silver car (S4). I honestly don't know if it completely works or if a S4 switch works in a S5 car.

The relays are inside the wiper switch itself. You have to take it out and take it apart to replay the relays. Unfortunately, they can't be cleaned and only replaced.
You'll need to have decent soldering skills to replace them because once you've taken the switch out and taken the plastic off you need to heat up the solder points and split the boards to gain access to the relays. I have seen someone offering rebuilt switches or a rebuilding service on ebay for $60 or so. |

Also, any idea which relay is bad by my description? That write up says there are three.

Relay 3 is the one you want to replace. I am not sure if they interchange. They have very non rear wiper, regular non rear wiper, and very. In S4 and S5

Wiper switches are grouped via series, so there are different part numbers for each...
I know for sure the headlight switches are NOT swappable, although the plugs do interchange. Mazda had the bright idea to redo the fricken' pins; the change is in the sub-harness that plugs into the headlight switch itself. Stupid. This might be the case with the wiper switches...? Try and find out and report back to us? -Ted Last edited by RETed; 05-23-2014 at 05:06 PM.. |

Well, that answers all my questions. More difficult than I had hoped, but I can manage that.

Well, I ordered the relay, we will see how long it takes for that to show up. I figured it was worth the 15 buck before caving to another switch. I may get that S4 switch and try it just to find out if they are interchangeable, although since the headlight switch is different, I have my doubts.

Wow, relay came in today. I guess that means this Saturday I will break into the switch. I did not expect it to come in that quickly.
