Question on quality of pump gasoline

It has been more difficult lately to find Sunoco gas stations (I've been using the Sunoco Ultra, 94-octane ). And some of the Sunoco's around here have sporadically been out of the Ultra.

So, what (brand, etc.) do you think is another good, high-quality, consistent pump gasoline? Or at least, the least likely to have put regular in the high-test tank?

Aviation fuel. 5 bucks a gallon for 100LL. Guaranteed to be 100LL.

I've always used BP 93. I know it isn't the best but it's what I am used to. You can always add octane booster.

Another option is race gas but for the price you might as well get aviation gas, unless you are worried about the lead content.

I've used the 100LL as race gas. Great choice! Unfortunately, we still have to do emissions checks here, and I need street unleaded for the FD.

Looks like I'll be trying the Shell 93-octane V-Power. it has been recommended, and is in the "Top-Tier" fuel listing.

If your tuned so on the edge you need 94 oct. oppose to 93 I'd be afraid to drive the car at all.

Ive been running 20 lbs on bp 93 for almost a year i hope its ok!

When im trashing it hard i give it a little trac tec 110!

5.79 for 110 leaded for me! You could always add a meth inj. kit and have no worries.

I'm not so worried about 94 vs 93 (or even 91) octane. What I am most worried about is 87 in the premium tank. I guess any shady operator might do that, though, regardless of brand.

I'm still unsure why everyone thinks that one station's gas is better than another. Around here all gas comes from the same fuel depot in Oxford. The only differences might be tank maintenance, filters, or additives, If a gas station operator was to put regular in the premium tank then they would be facing various fines and fraud charges, so I don't think that many would try it out.

There are differences in fuels. Additive packages and (sometimes) base fuel are the main differences.

As far as putting 87 in the 93 tank, that's rare, but definitely has happened. I've had it happen to me (not in the FD, luckily). I've mostly had it happen in my racecar tow vehicle ('74 Chevy Van with high-compression pistons in a 350 engine). Sure makes it tough to tow a 5000-lb trailer when you can only use about 1/3 throttle.

I'd just stick to a "major" company for gas, like you said. The majority of problems I've had with gas occurred at the little ma and pa gas stations and discount stations.

Agree. I only use off-brand/cheapo stations for my Focus... It's made to run on anything.

If your worried about 87 in a 93 tank, who's to say Sunoco hasn't screwed up and put something less than 94 in their tank?? What makes them perfect compared to Exxon, BP,Shell, etc.

You've got me there.

There are NO assurances that any gas station won't screw up. I just want to cut down the probability that it will happen, and in the process, use the best street pump gas I can find.

Sunoco changed their 94 to 93 years ago in my area. I thought that was a national thing. They added a bunch more detergents and crap and knocked it down a peg on the octane scale.
