going from manual to automatic (crazy I know)
Ok, so I have an engine that had a 5spd behind it and am trying to bolt up an automatic. It appears that the end of the eccentric shaft is different!!!! Believe you me, I would rather have a manual, but I am not cutting up the tunnel to fit this 5spd in there.(it's a '73 rx2) Has anybody heard of an adapter to go this direction? Or do I just have to bite the bullet and rebuild my original motor?

I don't think the eccentric is any different from 1 trans type to another could you post up some pics of what you are seeing?

It might looks different cause the input shaft on the automatic transmission doesn't require a pilot bearing like a manual transmission requires.
Remove the pilot bearing (and seal), and it should fit. -Ted |

It will fit for sure, just do as RETed said, I done all generation from auto to manual and vise versa.
