The Newbie

Hello everyone.
So I've been on 7club for a little while now and this seems like a refreshing change. My name is Bobby and I'm 19. I own a 1987 RX-7 base model that I picked up for $500. By far the best $500 I've ever spent.
I guess I'll tell you about her. I've always loved RX-7's and when I was 16 decided I wanted one. I had no money and no idea how I could ever afford one. So I hopped on craigslist and after a few months of searching found a 7 about 2 hours away for $500. I decided I had to have it so got all my money together and borrowed a bunch from my mom and called the guy up to arrange to pick it up. After a hectic day of trying to find a trailer to tow it home I finally got to the guys house around 10pm. I couldn't really look at the car because it was so dark but he took me for a ride in it and I was hooked. Now the car has no interior to speak of save for what needs to be their to keep it driveable and legal, it could use paint, and it's basically a little rough all over. But I lover her. I drove it for just over a year with no real problems to speak of. Did some minor things. Put a new tranny in because the old one whined, Put in a manual steering rack, and a few other little things. Then I graduated highschool and had about $800 burning a hole in my pocket. So I decided it would be a good idea to buy a turbo engine...I got a s5 t2 motor for $1200 with just about everything included and a trans. The motor supposedly only has 13,000 miles on the rebuild and I must say it seems to be very clean. Now I'll admit I didn't do nearly enough research and bit off more then I can chew. s4 n/a to s5 turbo is definatly a lot of work. I also decided that since the motor was out I might as well tear the whole front of the car apart and drop the subframe to paint the engine bay... It's been a lot of work but the end is in sight and I can't wait to fire her up for the first time with the new motor. Just put the second coat of paint on today. Hopefully can start droping the motor in the next week. I have spent hours researching and beleive I have everything I need to make this swap work.. I'm basically building the car into a daily driven "race car". I'm trying to get into drifting so that's what I'm going to be doing with the car most of the time. It's all about having fun with her and learning from my mistakes both driving and working on her. So thats the story of my car. It's one hell of a learning experience. |
