Default This sound like bad hub/bearing, or more?

OK, don't want to go into specifics but a couple of weeks ago a wheel spacer decided it was time to part ways with my car, and I ended up coming to a stop on 3 wheels from about 55mph on the expressway. The brake rotor was obviously trashed, but I was lucky in that because I'd just raised the suspension, the rotor was the only thing it had landed on (the frame or arms hadn't touched the deck).

I got a new rotor and threw it on last night. Bolted up fine but when it was spinning on the hub it was giving me a slight scraping noise throughout all of the turn. Also, when I put the caliper on the outer edge of the rotor would touch it at one point during the rotation.

Is my amateur diagnosis that the bearing or hub is damaged and should be replaced, or does that sound like it could be something else? Am picking up a replacement hub this weekend but just wondered if anyone had experiences of this type of thing and could advise.

yikes, yeah I'd suspect the bearing and hub, they're not intended to take a direct hit against hard surfaces. I assume this on the front, and if so I'd be concerned the spindle is bent as well.

If I'm reading this correctly, with the front fully assembled and the wheel torqued down the rotor is contacting the caliper? If that's the case, is it contacting on both sides (inlet/outlet if you will) of the caliper or just one. If it's just one, bent spindle. I know becuase this just happened to me. If it's both sides I would mic up the rotor or swap it to make sure you got the right one from the parts place.

What's happening is that as the new rotor turns, the outer edge of it will touch the caliper at one point during each rotation. Just on the left hand side (passenger to me). So you reckon the spindle might be toast too?

Maybe. Check and reset the bearings. You need to have the wheel or a few nuts on the rotor to keep it in place..... or those retarded set screw, while you're rotating it.

OK. Will see when I put the new hub on this weekend. When that's on and the bearing is reset, it should all be clearing everything if it's ok. If not then I know the spindle's busted too.

could've gotten a bum rotor. Seen those come out of the box warped before. REALLY cheapo rotors though. Nothing that was going on any of my cars.

It could be, and I did consider the possibility. But I am pretty sure the old rotor that was damaged and that I took off was doing the same thing when I was spinning it.

If switching the hub and bearing this weekend doesn't solve it, I'll try the rotor too.
