Default May 2010 Old School Rotary of the Month

Congratulations to Renisis NC!
1969 Mazda Cosmo Sport L10B

Q: Congratulations for winning Ride of the Month! Tell us about how you acquired this car?
A: I stumbled across this one via the Yahoo Japan auctions, however the deal was done via direct contact. This one had been stored in a shed somewhere north of Mt Fuji for more than 10 years and has not turned a wheel in that time. It has just 80,000km on the clock which I expect to be accurate due to the finite life of the early rotary engines...the engine in it could have been rebuilt a couple of times in its life already. This all finally happened after 15 years of dreaming, another 5 of hunting and then a nervous 6 months of waiting.

Q: Favorite stretch of road to drive your car on (location)?
A: Any road will be my favourite if I'm driving the L10B.

Q: Whats the biggest reason you chose a rotary powered car to modify?
A: Not applicable.

Q: What are the future plans on this car?
A: The future plans involve getting the car registered before the years end. The path to get to that point will require the whole powertrain to be disassembled, inspected, items repaired/replaced as required, and then reassembled. Over the past couple of months I've been collecting a few bits and pieces to assist with the mechanical overhaul.

Q: What was the worst and best memory of this project?
A: Opening the shipping container to finally see her in all her glory.

Q: Any other hobbies besides cars?
A: Nah just cars....unless you would consider my family as a hobby!

Q: Anyone you'd like to thank?
A: Richard Larsen for facilitating the purchase and arranging the sea freight.

Q: Anything in the pipeline for another ROTM win?
A: Supercharged Renesis powered Mazda MX-5 Time Attack car.
