racing beat exhaust install
I ordered a dual tip exhaust from Rx7.com in Garland, TX. last week. I got the exhaust Friday night so I behaved--went to bed early, little beer consumtion.
I opened up box more Saturday morning and found that one of the tips had been damaged in shipping. I had to wait till monday to get a hold of Rotary Performance. ![]() They handled it pretty well and I got new order in last night. I had to help a buddy pull an engine from his Nova so I didn't have time to get to it. But today after a painful day of dealing with inept engineers I got home and put it on. I love it. My car is stock (well except for the new exhaust). The sound is really good, my buddy who is a Mustang owner had really good comments too. Some install points. --I spray PB Blaster on the bolts for a few days--well about a week and a half since the first shipment was damaged --broke one bolt on rear hanger, but was able to take bolt out so no big deal --Needed an impact to get nuts loose on cat. I used an electric impact gun and pulsed the trigger and had sprayed the bolts with PB Blaster for some time so I wasn't too worried about stripping or breaking anything --I put exhaust together per instructions, but when I got to the last rubber hanger I couldn't pull it on. I ended up unbolting the exhaust. The connecting pipe was bolted to cat and had it hanger installed. Then I hung the muffler assembly and bolted the connecting pipe back on. I wll post some pics when I get a hold of a camera.

well here are the pictures. Yep, looks like every other RB dual tip install.
I will probably take off the exhaust and remove the tow hitch this weekend, if I have time. I still need to find out what is going to happen with the damaged exhaust. I don't think Rotary Performance wants it back. UPS will only lose more money if the come pick it up and I am not sure who they whould ship it too. Maybe I will get lucky and can sell it for a deep discounted price. Well, hope this helps any one in the future. There isn't a lot of exhaust posts yet so this is my contribution to the forum for now.

nice!
I got the same exhaust 8 months ago or so. I took off the tow hook and the exhaust i got had a bracket on the right side. I had to cut that off since it was tearing apart the rear bumper plastic. I also noticed that the exhaust hanger bushings allowed the exhaust to move around a lot. I bought some polyurethane exhaust hangers for about 5 bucks each and put those on. I used wd40 to squeeze the bushing on the hanger. now the exhaust doesnt move for shit. I very happy with it and i cant wait to finish my exhaust now that i have my power FC.

hopefully I can get a sound clip next week.
BTW much easier to install than my buddy's ZR2 Blazer. He has a made a custom exhaust since their are no aftermarket exhaust for the ZR2 package. We spent all night just getting the factory exhaust off. Required removing a transmission support and tire. One stupid nut on the manifold and stupid (for servicing) one piece exhaust to the muffler slowed us way down.

i love the way the rb duals sound. i am really looking forward to opening up the exhaust with the down and midpipe with the cat delete. the sound is a nice subtle note with a shitload of aggressivness when you open up the throttle. I cant stand loud and obnoxious.
mine is my daily though.. maybe when its a track only my taste will change.

I agree it is quiet which is good for daily driving, I guess me personally I like my exhaust loud and obnoxious. I've also heard good things about the smb products
