No, it is not. I just went through all this jazz with my 83. U-joints in S1/S2 driveshaft are not replaceable. They are in S3. S3 driveshaft uses a different rear diff flange and bolt pattern. You cannot modify the 83's to work.

Just the opposite. S1/S2 have replacable ujoints, while S3 does not. However, the 83 can have either setup, from the factory. According to the parts micro-fiche, all 83's have the larger flange and non-sevicable ujoints, but some early 83's had the same setup as the 79-82.

Easy way to tell which flange you have. The large flange has 4 holes, none are threaded and is a square pattern, while the small flange has 4 threaded holes, but is not square.

Ah, thanks for the correction. I knew it was one way or the other with the 83 sandwiched in the middle. Mine had the S3 style on it and I swapped back to the replaceables.

If not just grab a new flange and use your 82 DS.

Will a driveshaft from an 84 work? I think I have one.

Since his 82 DS doesn't seem to fit, then the 84 DS should work, as long as it wasn't from an auto equipped car. 84/85 auto's were longer than 79-83 auto and all 5 speed trans.

So, yes I confirmed that I indeed need the driveshaft with the larger bolt pattern. I offer 50 bucks shipped plus beer if you ever come to visit.
