New member with an RX-7
Hello all. I am Irbyjr, have had a '83 RX-7 GSL since 1984. I have an item or two I'd like some advice on, and will submit a new post for that.
Thanks |

My '83 RX-7 GSL has an oil leak that contacts the exhaust manifold. My mechanic buddy thinks it is from the timing cover, but he can't find the gasket or whatever to fix the problem. Any leads for help??
No pictures yet but later I hope THanks Irbyjr |

Do you mean the front cover? MazdaTrix carries a lot of small parts. Check your oil injection lines and pump for leaks, they run along that side. I had a leak there before. If you don't know where they're at download the FSM (Service Manual) from
http://foxed.ca/foxed/index.php?page=rx7manual The manual will help in trying to track down the leak and many other things. A little hard to diagnose without seeing it.

My mechanic friend thinks the leak is coming from the timing cover and/or the oil pan. Gaskets should be cheap for this, but labor appears to be way up there. I am trying to decide what to do (or what NOT to do).
Comments, suggestions? Thanks, Irbyjr |

Welcome to the club! Check your oil metering lines sealing washers, sometimes they leak check with engine running, hope you'll find it!
