Most people like to run a good synthetic such as Redline or Royal Purple.

I've been a happy user of Redline synthetic gear oil with all of my manual transmission cars for many years. For an FC, the proper Redline flavor to buy is MT-90, which is their 90 weight synthetic lube that best matches what the Mazda FSM calls for. You'll need to buy 3 quarts, and will have some left over. Don't know if it will solve your grinding problem, but it probably can't hurt.
