OK so I own an '84 GSL-SE. I have a huge problem with cold starts.
When I start the car it likes to shoot a bellowing white cloud out of my exhaust continuously until the car warms up and then no problem. I'm guessing i have some kind of coolant seal issue because there is no more white smoke once the engine is up to temperature. The seal is much better then. I would like to know a reason for this and a possible fix for my problem. Also while driving the car once i get to or past 3k rpm it likes to stutter. Lets say if I were to be driving in second get completely off of the clutch and floor it, Nothing happens. ![]() The car has 150,000 miles. Aftermarket intake and RB headers and no air pump if that can give any kind of problems. Thanks in advance.

what are the plugs looking like?
i would believe the coolant seal issue to be correct.

Brand new plugs. Replaced them last night. Old ones were done from all the cranking.
Do you have any idea what would cause it to have no power past 3k rpm. I have a feeling it just might not be getting fuel because it stutters at 3k and past that is nothing.

First thing you need to do is get a good manual and replace all of the vaccum lines with new ones so you know that they are in good shape. Do one at a time so they don't get mixed up. Then you need to start troubleshooting the FI system. There are alot of things that help or hurt the idle control. A good write up I found a while ago is this one.I think I saved it from the other forum. Hope that doesn't cause any issues.

well if the car sat for an extended time i would check the fuel system. might not be able to get enough fuel from something being clogged. Check the filter first, operation of the injectors second.

Gonna drop the tank, clean it out and get some good stuff in there. Checked timing and not sure which dot on the pulley needs to be lined up for tdc. Both of the dots have no color anymore.

White smoke is water. Do the engine seal check. Start with cap off radiator, if it bubbles afraid you have a seal gone.

Did you check compression? Sounds like if it's not the fuel, it might be running on one rotor. Take the top two plugs out, one at a time, and turn it over by hand and see if you get 3 strong puffs of air from each rotor.

I checked compression and the puffs are very consistent and strong on each rotor.
