Boost/Vacuum Issues
Ok so I am still new to this FD I got over here in Okinawa Japan. When I purchased the car it would boost to 10 like is suppose to, but now it won't boost past 6. It has an HKS boost controller but it is doing nothing at the moment. I did replace a tube that was broken just under the intakes that was hooked up to the boost controller. Now it makes a weird sound when it comes off boost. After talking to a friend he said it sounds like thats air not being released and it is going back toward the turbo? So my thought is possibly the stock air bypass valve or charge relief valve?
Any thoughts? Thanks |

Check for a split in an air hose from the turbo to the intercooler .If the car is mostly stock the curved hose that connects to the intake side of the turbo at the bottom could be split along the seam and is hard to see .I have found this to be the case on several cars in the past .I may have a good one in storage .

Going to try a few junk yards to see if can find a new 90 for the first turbo.
I've read if you unhook the charge relief valve so I can better narrow down the problem with the first turbo not boosting high enough. Is there any more to this? Next, I have a few pictures of how the boost controller is hooked up and wondering if it "looks" correct? This was all hooked up before i bought the car and curious if any ideas. Also on the upper intake manifold there are two nipples right next to each other on the turbo/exhaust side. One is going directly to the blow off valve/air bypass valve, and the other is not hooked up to anything. Where is that suppose to be hooked up to? Thank for any help! From your pictures I will say you have a mess from the seller sorry .If I was working on the car I would find some of the diagrams of the simple way to connect everything needed to run the car .Get rid of the things not needed like the fast warm up fast idle parts ect ect . Check all the large needed tubes and connections .Replace all of the small hoses with new ones . Just a roll of 4mm vacuum tubing and about 3 feet of 6 mm tubing.This would be theway I would go about the job .From the pictures I would say the other owner was not a good mechanic.
