I dissagree with you... Just look at my people and our country's "reputation". Mention one thing about Russia, and people almost immediately think Comunists or mafia, or something else along those lines. Why? Because of all the hollywood bullshit and uneducated "exposure" people put out (cold war era really sucked in that sense) Anyway, my point is: would you really like it if a large group of people thought of your country as "the bad guys" or their leaders as tyrants all the time? I'm sure that you would not.
One good example:
There is a lot more to Russia than just the capital, but that's all most people can think, because of all the "exposure" about it and nothing else. That causes everyone else to live in the shadow of our capital, and in my opinion at least, hurts the economy significantly in other areas of the country.
Anyway, back on topic: I did meet a really cool Laotian girl recently, and she left a good impression, so I guess that can speak for itself.
