Yes very easy to install but I didn't like that it puts the sender in danger of being hit by something from the street. Even though we flatbottomed the open road car, didnt' like that the sender was laying against the plate. Has since been changed to an in pan unit.
Best option I believe is to have the fitting installed in the oil pan. Easy to do when you have the motor done. I have also installed two temp gauges, one in the pan and one after the oil cooler along with two pressure gauges, front and back of motor. Over kill for most applications.
I have used just about all points for both applications. 'T'ing off of the factory sender can be done.
Easiest for most client cars has been installing sensors in the banjo bolt. I have drilled and tapped bolts available. 1/8 pipe thread. Or can make other sizes.
