Thanks for the replies. I agree, I wouldn't want a hot flammable liquid spraying through the interior either. But that's not how the mechanical temperature gauges work. The have a small capillary tube filled with an expandable gas such as ether. As the sender probe heats up it starts to heat the gas which expands and moves the needle.
I have found difficulty finding a full sweep oil temperature gauge which matches the factory gauge faces for an affordable price.
I was hoping someone had done this and might know where a good mounting port might be.
