Welcome to the forum Robbie, I kinda agree with Chris (RedR1) that you may want to look skeptically at the car. Honestly Iīd be a bit concerned with a local Mazda mechanic doing the rebuild, not many run-of-the-mill mechanics know much about the Rotary, even if they do have a Mazda badge on their shirt. Were you able to get compression numbers for the engine? That will help a lot regarding how healthy the engine is.
Either way, welcome to the forum, search around to learn what you can and donīt be afraid to ask questions if something doesnīt make much sense.
