You don't *need* a press to do them, but it certainly makes life easier. You can get away with a giant c-style clamp like a ball joint tool - or, just a monster C-clamp.
For the front control arm bushings a sawzall is handy for the rear ones. Cut down along the bushing into the steel sleeve, once its cut you can pry the sleeve off and the bushing will come with it. Most of the others are just a matter of beating the sh** out of. The front bushing on the front control arm cna have the tabs cut off it and be pressed out or beat out with an impact hammer (actually, thers a nother tool that will come in handy! lol)
I would highly recommend you avoid burning any bushings out. Its a poisionous, dirty and HACKEd up method that yeilds poor results and wastes time more then anything else. If anything, its a last resort to aid in the pressing/beating out process.
Also, a drill and an assortment of bits helps. Sometimes you need to drill the circumference of the bushing to get it to slip out of the part.
