i would start by avoiding upgrading to the turbo, modify things with turbo being your goal and hopefully buy upgrades that you can use for the turbo down the road.
finding a competent carb tuner for rotaries is probably going to be your biggest problem, and of course the ignition will also need to be upgraded to handle it. most people just swap in later model engines as R1 mentioned.
most later model engines will fit just fine by using your existing front cover to mount the engine and a GSL-SE oil pan to clear the crossmember. the shifter either needs to be notched to clear the chassis or modified to move it forward 4+ inches with the turbo transmission(also requires a modified driveshaft and/or upgraded diff).
