Not sure what the deal is with the left over connector... I'd expect anything factory to be well.. factory and to use all the plugs, so I can't help there.
The filter sock though is something I've never used on the car, but JEEP guys use them to basically "prefilter" the air and keep the element cleaner when going into some really nasty areas. Not sure if its really needed on a street driven car though..
