Mazda stock ECUs are only capable of measuring 360 degrees of eccentric shaft rotation; since the trigger wheel is mounted on the eccentric shaft it cannot discern the difference between one rotor face vs the other three. No mate they use 1080 in programming and can measure it with a 360 wheel on the crank
You may not know where each individual rotor face is but that is not an issue so far as knowing the actuall Wankel Cycle and when to trigger things.
