I would say the smell would probably be coming from the gasket sealant. I couldn't tell you why, but I can't think of anything else causing it. It's the only thing that's out of place. I'd say replace the gaskets, make sure to scrape off all the sealant, and see if the smell goes away. If not, go from there, at least you crossed off one suspect lol.
As for the stereo, wow. First of all, the antenna port shouldn't be grounded. WTF were they thinking? LOL That cable goes all the way back to the antenna. They sell entire lengths of antenna wire at auto parts stores, I got mine at Checker/O'Reilly anyway. I'm not sure if the cable is replaceable though. I deleted my antenna and put in a hidden antenna, that's the only reason I know. But it's not too difficult to run the cable back.
