The fan control relays on the FD have an odd arrangement. From the factory, they are wired in a way that will always activate both cooling fans together, but at three different speeds. The OEM setup will never activate just one fan by itself. I've posted a chart and diagram below... can post a longer explanation of the diagram if you'd like, but will try to be brief for now.


If Coolant Fan Relay No. 3 is bypassed (the Black wire would always connect to the Blue/Orange wire), the fan speed will be increased so it is always medium or high when the ECU activates the fans or the A/C switch is lit (when the cabin fan is on).


If any of the other relays are bypassed this could cause the fans to run even when the ignition key is off, which could drain the battery pretty quickly.
